Dear Friend,
We hope to write to you every week, detailing our work, both old and new, and what is happening at SouthSide...this is an exciting time for us and we hope that you will share both our happinesses and sorrows.
We rode the initial tide of apprehension and excitement of bringing out our first set of English books (Speaking Sandals, East Wind, and Komuram Bheem from SouthSide Books after nearly one and a half years. As you know SouthSide Books is the English imprint of our Hyderabad Book Trust.
A lot of time and effort were involved in getting these out because we put in so much love and care but yay!! We finally published them. The books have been out for less than a week now. So many have helped in the production - we received good advice from Sadhana about the page setting and design, Akila worked hard on the covers, Ananya, Amal and others helped with the editing and copy-editing. So far, the messages sent out on WhatsApp have been received well. We are warmed by our friends' wishes and grateful for their support.
On the flip side, despite much care, we (and others) noticed mistakes in the book - Yendluri Sudhakar's year of passing was wrong, and others too. People said the production was good but the font was too small. That leaves us with errors and improvements to be carried out in our next print.
So, right now, it is a flurry of packing and sending books, telephoning bookstalls and organisations.
This week also marked a double tragedy - the deaths of Gaddar and Zaheeruddin Ali Khan. Brought us to the sobering thought that everyone faces impermanence. But the ideas and revolutionary spirit they leave with us have no death. And it is our duty to keep them alive, preserve, document, and carry them into future. And we are happy to do our part in this.
Write to us or visit our website to get your copies. And do not forget to send us your thoughts.
