SouthSide Chatter Vol. 11

Updated: Nov 25

Dear Readers,

Book Brahma Festival Highlights

We are delighted to share the highlights of the Book Brahma Festival, which took place in Bangalore from August 9 to 11. This remarkable three-day event brought together 300 South Indian language writers to celebrate the legacy of South Indian literature and its profound influence on world literature.

Over the three days of the Book Brahma Festival, Mr. Anbazhagan, a retired public sector employee and a passionate reader, dedicated his time to managing the stall for SouthSide Books. He enthusiastically engaged with visitors, shared insights about Hyderabad Book Trust (HBT), and distributed printouts of HBT’s description from August 1980, as featured in the Economic and Political Weekly (please find below). His dedication to promoting both HBT and SouthSide Books, handing out visiting cards, and meticulously maintaining a Visitor's Book significantly contributed to our success at the festival and helped foster a deeper appreciation of our mission.

A Triumphant Presence

We are thrilled to announce that several of our titles, including Speaking Sandals, were met with tremendous enthusiasm and were completely sold out! During one of the festival's literary sessions, it was a pleasant surprise to hear Speaking Sandals mentioned by the moderator. In the spirit of literary camaraderie, we had the pleasure of presenting copies of this book to the session's other speakers.

Engaging Conversations

Our participation in the festival also fostered exciting discussions with attendees who expressed keen interest in our books. We had engaging conversations with individuals such as the enthusiastic woman from Assam, Sri Ram, the Film Festival aficionado, Sriramanjaneya from Mumbai, and Kartika, a self-publisher. These young voices are part of the vibrant current generation, and their passion for literature and publishing was truly inspiring.

A Memorable Moment

One of the festival’s most memorable moments occurred when we spotted Jayamohan, the renowned writer, strolling with a copy of East Wind, a publication of SouthSide Books. It was a proud moment for us!

Looking Ahead

Thank you to everyone who visited our stall and showed support for our titles. We look forward to continuing these conversations and sharing more of our literary journey with you.

Happy Reading!
